
Protocol in computer-speak is similar to the real-world definition.
A protocol is a standard procedure, the set of rules for communication and
data transmission between computers. Protocol suite (also known as
a "protocol family") is the description of the messages to be
exchanged and the rules that need to be followed to allow the exchange
of information between two or more systems.
